Jesus – Light of The World

This year is moving along very quickly. It seems Christmas has only just gone and here we are, in the Christian Churches most Sacred of Seasons.

Holy Week – the time from Palm Sunday, when we remember Jesus’ final entry into Jerusalem riding on a donkey. He was welcomed by screaming, cheering crowds of followers, almost what you would expect to see today if a famous pop star were to arrive in your town, and yet a few days later they were screaming again – this time for His death on Calvary!

Jesus knew what was ahead of Him, who would be there, what they would do, and most importantly – that He was going to be killed on the Friday. The prophets had foretold it, the angels knew about it and God had prepared for it since the beginning of time.

God Almighty, Creator of the universe, the Great I AM who breathed life into our very existence, knew right from the very start that His Beloved Creation would turn against Him, would enter into sin with God’s enemy – him whom we call Satan.

In perfect love He made us, in perfect love He gave us the gift of free will – and in perfect love He gave His Son, Jesus Christ to redeem us. No one was worthy to save us from our sin state other than the Perfect One.

I believe all this was planned for since before the moment of creation. Our Loving Heavenly Father did all possible to ensure we, whom He loved, had the perfect opportunity to be reconciled with Him.

Over the past few weeks it seems we (here at our home) have been receiving multiple stories of Near Death Experiences. These have involved little children and grown adults. The children have suffered some kind of dire medical emergency (usually), and after they have recovered, they have simply told their close loved one, stories of being with Jesus, having seen angels, meeting long dead relatives, and knowing great love. Their stories and the accuracy of their out of body remembrances’ have stunned the adults listening. In no way could these beautiful little children have known what was happening to them in the operating theatre, nor could they have possibly known what their parents and families were doing, whilst they were in surgery under anesthetic.

You can be as cynical as you want, something happened in these children’s lives that will change their way of thinking about an afterlife – forever. I would estimate that most of these kiddies had never heard of an afterlife before their experiences. They have now and KNOW that they have a loving mighty God waiting for them.

On the other hand, the adults with the near death experiences have had great testimonies to tell afterwards. These people have mostly been of the atheist persuasion, having little or no time to want to know of, or believe in God. He did not exist to them and neither did Satan nor did hell!

Once they are recovered from what it was that brought them to their close encounter with death, these people become wonderful spokespeople for The Kingdom of God. They have all had personal encounters with our Living God. They have all made a personal decision – preferring life everlasting over death eternal. They have seen The Light of The World and it has changed them – every cell in their bodies, into vibrant God Fearing (loving) evangelists, who are simply and utterly determined to bring as many people as possible into this Wondrous Light.

1 John 1:5-7 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not practise the truth:

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.

This light is spiritual, it is pure, and it is eternal. In God there is NO darkness! The Light came to us to offer Eternal Life to those who would believe and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Easter is the time we reflect on this wonderful gift. The Blood of Jesus was the only way we could be washed clean of the filth of our sin. Sin is what separates us from God, and Jesus is THE WAY back into relationship with God and into everlasting life.

Now we are washed clean, now we can reach out to others, now we can take The Light to the Nations. Have a Blessed and safe Easter, and remember:

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14
